Wonderfully written, this story is a definite five-star read. Another World for Hope Portal to Mescalahem appears to begin as a haunting only to turn into something much different: an epic tale of an alternate dimension, a prophecy, and the hope for its fulfillment. The Wright family has had to endure many heartaches, with the death of their father and their grandfather missing without a trace.
Life seems to be getting back on trac Another World for Hope Portal to Mescalahem appears to begin as a haunting only to turn into something much different: an epic tale of an alternate dimension, a prophecy, and the hope for its fulfillment. Life seems to be getting back on track until little Abby starts talking about flying invisible dogs, the mother, Emily, hears voices in their home, and her son, Wendel, has strange experiences with the treehouse on the property.
Enter the new world and the prophecy through the portal to Mescalahem where time has stood still against industrialization. This story has all the right elements of intrigue, haunting, adventure, and happiness told in a very convincing manner. Oct 30, Jasmin Quinn rated it it was amazing Shelves: fantasy , young-adult.

As a writer, Forkner is a masterful story-teller. The novel keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end and one cannot help but become invested in the lives of Wendell, his young sister, Abby, their mother, Emily and all the other characters. It is a fantastic first book in a great series that I intend on reading. It may be geared to young adults, but this is a book anyone would enjoy.

Finally, the book is well-written and well-edited. Book-store worthy! I was wonderfully surprised by the storytelling of this YA adventure. From the lightning covered tree house and demonic dogs at the beginning, to the world of Mescalahem where a war is raging and a prophecy is believed to be coming to fruition, I was engrossed. Not only is this Wendel Wright's adventure, his whole family is eventually caught up in it. The tale grows even more epic, which is fine for me, as Mr. Forkner introduces us to an even wider range of interesting characters on the other si I was wonderfully surprised by the storytelling of this YA adventure.
Forkner introduces us to an even wider range of interesting characters on the other side of this world, including Sapphire, whom Wendell and his sister Abby grow close to. This really is a good book and I think readers of all genres would enjoy it. It has a little bit of everything for everyone and the writing is first rate, nothing clunky or confusing.

The children are skeptical at first, but on their very first night, Abby sees a pair of puppies no one else can. Wendel finds new friends, and together, they stumble upon a mysterious treehouse on his mother's property, and the adventure begins. Very much a book I can recommend. As it turns out, the treehouse is a portal and everyone has something waiting for them in the dimension on the other side. This is a very compelling read with a number of interesting characters. There are so many The beginning of this book hooked me in instantly. Grabs from the outset and does not let go.
Was I mistaken or what?!?
The story grabs you from the prologue and does not let you go. I found myself reading it during my nightly insomnia. What grabbed me in particular? The whole idea of the tree house acting as a portal. Wendel is a teenager, but not a whiny teen. Dancer is also a giggle. The potential between Wendel and Sapphire. Highly recommeded. He Who Would Come (The Wendel Wright Chronicles - Book 2)
It all starts with the discovery of a haunted treehouse in the woods. This treehouse is a portal to an alternate dimension, one that is filled with epic adventure and danger. I really loved the characters, and how well developed they were. The Wright family has seen their share of heartache, and I really found myself feeling for them. This author does a great job of having the reader be invested in what happens, and I found myself cheering on Abby and Wendel to succeed.
This is a truly fresh plot, and I could not put the book down once I started reading.

Highly recommend! Apr 30, Anthony Kohler rated it really liked it. Wendel Wright is a force to be reckoned with. A truly elemental force, in fact. Not exactly the sort of kid you want to mess with.
None of which stops the master from trying to bend Wendel to his service and hunt down his mother and sister. Wendel has other ideas. A great read full of adventure and surprises. I loved the thought of using a treehouse as a portal to another world. Every childs - and possibly some adults - dream! The way the author developed the characters as they faced challenges and trials was done really well. I loved the scene descriptions too. An ancient evil is seeking to destroy young Wendel before he can discover who he really is and fulfill his destiny.
